2. What is mental health counseling?

Mental health counseling is a professional service provided by trained counselors or therapists to help individuals navigate and overcome various mental health challenges. It involves talking with a counselor in a safe and confidential environment to explore thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and develop coping strategies for improved well-being.

3. How can counseling help with mental health issues?

Counseling can help with mental health issues by providing a supportive and nonjudgmental space where individuals can express their thoughts and feelings. Counselors utilize various therapeutic techniques to help clients gain insight, develop coping skills, manage symptoms, improve relationships, and work towards positive change.

4. What types of mental health issues can be addressed through counseling?

Counseling can address a wide range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, stress, grief and loss, trauma, relationship difficulties, self-esteem issues, anger management, addiction, and more. Counselors are trained to assess and work with individuals experiencing various mental health concerns.

5. What qualifications and experience do your counselors have?

Our counselors are highly qualified professionals who hold relevant degrees in counseling or psychology. They are licensed by the state of North Dakota, and all have training in therapeutic interventions, diagnosing, and treatment, and hold various skills and knowledge relating to complex mental health concerns. Providers have experience working with diverse populations and a range of mental health issues.

6. How long does a counseling session usually last?

Counseling sessions typically last around an hour. However, the duration can vary depending on individual needs or specific treatment plans.

7. Is everything discussed in counseling confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a crucial aspect of counseling. Conversations with your counselor are confidential, and they are ethically and legally bound to protect your privacy. However, there are legal and ethical limitations to confidentiality, such as situations involving imminent harm to oneself or others. Your counselor will explain these limitations during your initial session.

8. What if I can't afford counseling services?

If affordability of counseling becomes a problem, please let your provider know. We would never want services to put any person in a financial bind, and will try and work with every person to the best of our ability within the scope of what the laws allow us to do, and at times may require us to make necessary referrals to get you the help and support you need, if we are unable to meet your needs. All cases are handled on an individuals basis.

At this time our self-pay rates are as stated above. We are actively working to understand what we are allowed to do for self-pay rates, ensuring that self-pay rates do not interfere with insurance company contracts. Thank you for your understanding.

9. Are counseling services available in-person or online?

We offer both in-person and online counseling services. Depending on your preferences and location, you can choose the option that suits you best. Please note that some providers may limit the number of clients seen virtually.

10. Will my counselor prescribe medication?

As Licensed Counselors we do not prescribe medications. We do try and connect with local agencies within the community to keep up to date information on referral options for individuals who may need a medication evaluation and/or medication management.

11. Can I choose my counselor?

Yes, we understand the importance of a good therapeutic fit. Depending on availability, you may have the option to choose a counselor from our team who aligns with your preferences and specific needs.

Disclaimer

At Zero Gravity Counseling, we understand that the therapeutic relationship is crucial for effective mental health care. We recognize that not every counselor will be the perfect fit for every client, and we believe in the importance of finding the right match for an individual’s unique needs and preferences.

While we value the therapeutic alliance and encourage open communication between clients and their assigned counselors, we also acknowledge that there can be instances where a client may feel that the connection or therapeutic approach is not suitable for them. In such cases, we do not recommend “counselor hopping” or switching counselors without thoughtful consideration.

However, we are committed to supporting individuals in their journey to find mental health services that are most suitable for them. We understand that the therapeutic process requires trust, comfort, and a sense of compatibility, and we respect clients’ choices when they feel the need to explore alternative options.

Our team is dedicated to assisting clients in navigating this process. We will provide information, resources, and guidance to help individuals access mental health services that align with their specific needs and preferences. Whether it involves recommending other providers, suggesting alternative therapeutic approaches, or assisting with referrals, our priority is to support clients in finding the care that best suits them.

We believe that everyone deserves personalized and effective mental health support, and we are committed to empowering individuals on their journey to achieving optimal well-being, even if it means seeking services outside of our practice.
